Architectural PreservationBernal Heights has a range of building types -- Victorians, small cottages, and contemporary homes. Many of the older buildings are at risk of demolition for development; it is important to survey the neighborhood and identify those that are of historic interest, whether they be homes, businesses, or public buildings. Bernal Heights Preservation celebrates every building in Bernal, large and small.
Historical Photographs and MapsOld photographs, maps (atlases, road maps, etc), and papers (newspapers, ticket stubs, letters, advertisements, church bulletins, real estate documents, etc) show how the neighborhood has changed over time. BHP is working with the Bernal Heights Branch Library and the SF History Center at the Main Library to create an archive on Bernal Heights. BHP would lik e to make copies of any items that residents may have so that everyone can enjoy these important treasures.
Oral History BHP wants to identify people to interview about the everyday experiences of living in Bernal Heights-those who grew up h ere in the early 20th century, who moved here later in life, or who played a role in shaping the neighborhood. Tell your story. Are you interested in being interviewed? Do you know someone you think we should inter iew? Let us know!
